Grant Award for Migration Study

Shetland Museum and Archives are delighted to announce that they have received a Leverhulme Trust Artist in Residence award, to work with writer and artist Raman Mundair. The prestigious grant of £15,000 is one of only six awarded each year to academic and artistic institutions in the United Kingdom.

Shetland Museum & Archives Receives Research Grant

Shetland Museum and Archives has received a grant from the Esmée Fairbairn Collections Fund to research its taatit rug collection. The £26,800 grant will enable the Museum to thoroughly record and photograph each of the 40 rugs in its collection, as well as those in Shetland’s community museums.

Writing the North

Shetland and Orkney’s literature will take centre stage in a major new project being launched this weekend in Edinburgh. The project will culminate in spring of 2014 with a specially designed exhibition at Shetland Museum and Archives, and will include activities for school pupils, new contemporary writing and a series of public events.

Visitor numbers boosted by Divine Cat visit

The Gayer Anderson Cat Exhibition from September to December attracted over 6000 more visits from the same period in the previous year, making thisthe most successful temporary exhibition to date in terms of visitor numbers.
