What's on at our heritage sites this summer

We have listed all the events, workshops, open days and tours taking place at the Shetland Museum & Archives, Shetland Crofthouse Museum, Old Scatness Broch and Sumburgh Head Lighthouse this summer. Keep an eye on this page as more events may be added.

  • 2 July - Navigation Workshops (Primary 5-7) - BOOK
    10am to 12noon & 2pm to 4pm | Price £4
  • 3 July - Whaling Workshop (Primary 1-4) - BOOK
    10am to 11.30am & 1.30pm to 3pm | Price £4
  • 8 July - Summer Family Fun Day - maritime theme
    10am to 1pm | free, drop in event suitable for all the family
  • 25 July - Summer Family Fun Day - people of the past
    10am to 1pm | free, drop in event suitable for all the family
  • 13 August - Summer Family Fun Day - crofting
    10am to 1pm | free, drop in event suitable for all the family

Shetland Crofthouse Museum

Open Tuesday to Sunday from 10am to 1pm and 2pm to 4pm until Sunday 5th October. No booking required just drop-in.

Old Scatness Broch & Iron Age Village

  • Fridays - open for guided tours every Friday until 3rd October - BOOK
    10.15am - 11am | 12.15pm - 1pm | 2.30pm - 3.15pm
  • 7 August - Old Scatness Family Fun Day
    10am to 1pm | free, drop in event suitable for all the family

Sumburgh Head Lighthouse

Open Thursday to Monday 10am to 5pm.

  • 2 July - Mural Painting
    11.30am - 3.30pm | free, drop in event suitable for all the family

  • 5 July - Vintage Camera Workshop for Bairns - SOLD OUT
    10am to 12noon and 2pm to 4pm
