Update on temporary closure of Shetland Museum and Archives

We apologise for the delay in reopening the museum and archives this year.

Over the festive period we experienced problems with the building’s heating system, and therefore we had to remain closed until repairs can be made.

Complications arose due to the availability of parts, and although now sourced, they are manufactured to order. It is unfortunate that these carry a long lead time until they reach our doorstep.

It’s been a challenging situation, but we are now planning for the arrival of the parts and engineers are on standby to install so that we can reopen as soon as practicably possible. We are hoping that this will be by the second week of February.
