Flight exhibition opening in pictures

It was a pleasure to welcome so many guests to the opening of Flight in Da Gadderie this weekend. There was a real sense of anticipation and excitement as visitors experienced this major retrospective for the first time.

Find out more about the exhibition here.

Spanning 25 years of creative exploration, Flight brings together over 100 paintings, etchings, prints and drawings that capture Shetland’s wild skies, shifting seascapes and dramatic landscapes.

The artwork is displayed throughout Da Gadderie, the Briggistanes and the Boat Hall, offering a rare chance to experience the full breadth of Bloomer’s work — from intimate black and white etchings to vast, vividly coloured canvases alive with energy.

Flight runs until 4 January 2026.

Original works and limited-edition prints are available to purchase through the Own Art Scheme.

A beautifully produced book and exhibition catalogue accompany the show. Available to buy from the museum shop.

Come and explore this remarkable celebration of one of Shetland’s most distinctive and expressive artists.
