When you go inside

Please wait for a member of staff to call you forward.

A member of staff in PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) will meet you on arrival and check your booking. Please wait to be called forward and do not enter the foyer without their permission. Do not enter the building if it looks busy inside, queue outside until it is safe to enter.

There is a high plastic screen between you and the staff member, with a small gap at the bottom through which items can be passed. Please do ask the admissions staff member if you have any queries or concerns – they are there to help!

One-way System

There is a one-way flow for visitors inside Shetland Museum and Archives with a separate entrance and exit. The staff member will brief you on this when you arrive and direct you to galleries, shop or archives as appropriate. Only one booked group will be allowed in each gallery section at a time to ensure social distancing is maintained. The Boat Shed currently remains closed.

Make the most of your visit with your Smart Phone

We have lots of interactive elements in the Museum Galleries. Unfortunately we have had to block a number of these off for hygiene reasons as they require you to touch screens or objects. Where possible we have replaced these with QR codes. Simply logon to our free wi-fi (SIC Guest - no password required) . Open the camera on your smart phone and hold it up to the QR code. A notification will then appear asking you if you want to open a weblink. Tap on this and it will take you straight to our website where we will have further information taken from the interactive.
