Gallery Activities

Throughout the galleries, there are a number of interactive exhibits suitable for children and adults. Take a virtual tour of the historic Fethaland Fishing Station in the Boat Hall, and explore the buildings and boats around the shore.

Create your own Fair Isle jumper or cardigan design in our textile zone, or put your back into turning the quern in the home and land zone to grind oats.

Dress up activities for children can be found in different areas of the upper gallery. From Victorian costume to dressing as a Viking, with related games and props to really play the part!

A selection of drawing and colouring activities can be found at the naturalists desk in the upper gallery, in addition to a series of activity sheets including scavenger hunts which can be collected from the Foyer to enjoy as you explore the displays. Some of these are also available to download here before your visit (see list on right of page).

Also in the upper gallery are the public access PC’s which offer a range of services and activities. Browse the Geopark Shetland app to discover more about the wonderfully diverse geology of our islands, and plan a series of walks throughout the isles to see this firsthand. Enjoy hearing about other visitor experiences on the ‘My Favourite Object’ screen, or explore some of the more popular images from our photo collection. Take your favourite image home by choosing to purchase a print, available to collect from reception in minutes!
