Shetland Museum and Archives, and the surrounding outdoor dock area can be used to hold wedding ceremonies and are also fully licenced to cater for any following reception event.
Many couples choose the Boat Hall as the venue for their ceremony. With its four story height, dramatic hanging boats and full length windows bringing the outdoors inside, the acoustics and atmosphere in the space are perfect.
The historic Sixareen boat can either be moved to the side as a focal point for photographs, or can be moved out of the space to allow room for up to 120 seated guests. Following a romantic ceremony in the Boat Hall, guests can relax with a drink in the Auditorium or Foyer areas while the happy couple and their photographer use the Galleries or Dock area to capture the happy day.
A sit down meal can be provided upstairs in Hay’s Dock Café Restaurant for up to 56 guests, or up to 90 with a luxury buffet service in the Auditorium. A fully tailored menu can be provided. To continue an evening reception with additional guests, the Auditorium can accommodate up to 140 people, with a bar service provided in the Learning Room or Foyer area. The Foyer can also be used as an additional social space for couples who wish to invite larger numbers to the evening reception.
The Auditorium can be transformed into a romantic setting for the event, with plenty of space for a band or DJ and dancing.
