Shetland Museum and Archives is around a ten minute walk from Lerwick town centre. From the town centre, walk toward the Viking Bus Station, where there is a roundabout. Turn right at the roundabout and take the first left. The Mareel Cinema and Arts venue sits on the corner, just before the entrance to our car park. Shetland Museum and Archives is located on the waterfront at Hay’s Dock, to the side of Mareel.

The Museum and Archives is managed by the Shetland Amenity Trust, a small charity caring for Shetland's natural and cultural heritage. It is free to visit the Museum and Archives and donations are welcomed to help the Trust care for the collections and our heritage both now and in the future.

Arriving in Shetland by plane

Take the A970 North from Sumburgh Airport, following the signs for Lerwick. Once in Lerwick follow the signs for the Shetland Museum and Archives. This trip should take around 30 minutes.

Arriving in Shetland by ferry

Shetland Museum and Archives is just one mile from the Holmsgarth Ferry Terminal. Take the road into Lerwick town centre and turn left at the roundabout at the Viking Bus Station.

Local Public Transport
