Berenice graduated from Chelsea School of Art in 1983 with a 1st class hons degree in Sculpture, and in 1984 with an MA in Fine Art. In 1997 she gained a PhD in Anthropology, Women’s Studies and History from The Australian National University in Canberra.

Berenice draws on her background in ethnographic methodology (the study of the cultural aspects of everyday life) to produce a portfolio of contemporary artworks reflecting the role and influence of peat in present day Yell society.

Artists, Cilla Robertson and Elaine Thomason - both from Yell - participated in a series of workshops associated with this project. Some of their work features in this exhibition.
