RSA 200 | Shetland Connections

Tuesday, May 12th 2026 - Sunday, July 19th 2026
Da Briggiestanes, Shetland Museum

For two centuries, the Royal Scottish Academy has supported artists and architects, championing creativity in Scotland and beyond. Founded in 1826, the Academy has long provided a place for artistic exchange, professional recognition, and public engagement.

The ‘Shetland Connections’ exhibition at Shetland Museum and Archives celebrates the RSA’s 200th anniversary through works drawn from the museum’s own art collection. Each piece has a connection to Shetland - through landscape, people, history, or the artists who were inspired by these islands.

This exhibition brings together selected works from different generations of RSA-associated artists. Reflecting both the variety of artistic practice represented within the Academy and the enduring appeal of Shetland as a source of inspiration.

Featured artwork by Ursula Wood; Walter Graham Grieve; James Scott Kinear; William Fleming Vallance.
