In June 2015 Connie Flynn was the Artist in Residence at Sumburgh Lighthouse. During the residency she decided to research the social history aspect of the keepers and their families who stayed, worked and lived at the lighthouse.

Connie recorded these experiences of the past, the quotes and stories as a reference in her sketchbook. She then transferred these onto cloth, using a range of recycled fabrics to construct textile wall hangings, each one decorated with different surface effects and hand stitched techniques.

The Tales in Textile wall hangings incorporates Connie’s passion for textiles and her inspiration taken from her time in Shetland.
