Da Gadderie

In its lifetime the Abram sailed to the West Indies and the Arctic. In 1818, after making regular trips to Tortola carrying essential goods, she was converted into a whaler and operated out of Hull and Kirkaldy stopping off in Lerwick for supplies and crew. The Abram was involved in the search for the Franklin expedition which had vanished in 1845 while looking for the North West Passage. She met her end in 1862 after being trapped in sea ice and sank off North West Greenland. There will also be a display case focusing on Shetland's connection to the whaling industry.
