Focus Display: Portable Alters

A new focus display was unveiled in our lower galleries in September.
Entitled 'Mass on the move; bringing worship to the local community' this exhibition is a fascinating glimpse into early Christian practice in Shetland.
Curated by Jenny Murray, the display illustrates the use of portable altars carried by priests for religious services. The display features both marble from Italy and sandstone from Orkney.
