Mike McDonnell lived and worked on the island of Yell, where his quirky, irreverent style echoed the Shetland propensity for poking fun at local politicians. In his latter years, Mike produced a phenomenal body of artwork touching on many aspects of Shetland and Scotland’s historical and cultural heritage. His work is sometimes hard hitting in terms of political and environmental commentary and sometimes humorous in his multi-faceted takes on the human condition.

The exhibition which shows the diversity of his work as an artist, community artist, informal educator and creative initiator will be on display in Da Gadderie at the Shetland Museum & Archives from Saturday 25th November 2023.
