A century ago exactly, on 5 March 1922, Sir Ernest Shackleton’s funeral was held in the Norwegian church at Grytviken, South Georgia with 100 Norwegian and British whalers in attendance. The six pallbearers were all Shetlanders. Join Jon Sandison, AHS History Teacher and Military Historian, as he explores the stories of these six Shetlanders and how they came to be involved with such a renowned explorer.

There will also be the opportunity to view a small exhibition in the museum galleries which has been created to mark the centenary of the burial.

This talk and exhibition forms part of a wider range of events held to celebrate Scotland's Year of Stories 2022.
