Three Kirks and a Cathedral - A talk by Allen Fraser and Jenny Murray

Join us as we present new scientific research regarding the building of three 12th century towered churches in Shetland.
The three kirks were built in Tingwall, Papil in Burra, and Ireland in Bigton; each had a tower which incorporated vivid red sandstone. This stone was not from Shetland. So where did it come from and why were the towers red? And, what part did two Orcadian saints, Magnus and Rognvald play in our story.
Find out more as we explore our recent findings which add a new chapter to the story of the church in Shetland during the 12th century.
