Bring your little explorers to the Shetland Museum & Archives for our heritage-filled fun sessions, designed especially for under 5's - where history comes to life through play and discovery!
Join us on Thursdays as we explore a new and exciting theme each week. It might be an idea to bring a change of clothes for your peerie one as things could get messy!
Thursday 2nd May – On da croft
Discover the sights and sounds of the croft in this sensory experience – enjoy messy play with our farm toys and oats, straw and vegetables or chill out in a quiet corner with our soft toys and books.
Thursday 9th May – Archaeology Dig
Help the museum by digging out fossils and artefacts - use our spoons, shovels and nets to see what you can find. There is lots to be discovered at this sensory session.
Thursday 16th May – Colour
Discover the colours of the rainbow in this bright and happy sensory session - play with rainbow pasta, coloured rice, coloured toys and more.
Thursday 23rd May – In Da Rig
Lots of real-life play experiences to be had. Kitchen utensils, table set-up, cutlery, real vegetables and the water tray for some sensory fun.
Thursday 30th May - Trowie Knowe
Find the trows that are hidden through the room – from the sand box to the tuff trays! A great sensory experience featuring lots of different materials.
Thursday 6th June – Space
Discover the sights of outer space while finding different planets and playing at our different stations. Sensory items will include - shredded paper, planet/moon/star cut-outs (numbers, letters), cloud dough, coloured water, space video on projector.
Thursday 13th June - Nautical Splash
Learn about the different creatures that live in our seas while splashing around in our water tray with all things nautical – boats, shells, animals and more!
Thursday 20th June – Summer
The sun is shining – let’s discover the sights around us during the summer in this bright and happy session. Sensory play will include rainbow pasta, coloured rice, coloured water, sun/flower/bee/butterfly cut-outs, sand pit, buckets, summer theme on projector, building blocks.
