Picture-perfect Knitting

The reign of King Edward VII was the golden age of the picture postcard. Postcards were a cheap and fast way to send messages, and people were able to stay in touch as never before.
Some folk sent cards to pass on information, but most messages were simply for fun; “having a lovely holiday, please write soon”.
Turn over the postcard and we see a pretty picture. Publishers printed scenery and topics that sold best, and this helped create a stereotypical view of Shetland. How balanced a view was it, and has Shetland now come to reflect its own stereotype?
