Please note that all children under 16 must have a current consent form on file before attending any event at Shetland Museum and Archives. These forms can be submitted at the time of attending an event, or beforehand. One form applies for all events in the full calendar year.

Creel Lotto

Have a go at hauling a creel and see if you’re lucky enough to score a good catch! Pick a numbered buoy before being taken off to the Shetland Boat Week Creel Ground in a rowing boat to check your creel or prawn trap. 6 numbers available each day.

Set off in a boat for a row around the dock. Perfect for beginner hands-on taster sessions or for an enjoyable treat for those more practiced. Suitable for children and adults. Chaperone provided for less experienced rowers.

Blacksmith Demo with Brokkr Forge

Experience the smells, sound and heat of a real blacksmith forge as Bryden /Jacobson of Brokkr Forge sets up in the Pier Store to make maritime related items such as boat nails, chain or a shackle and hook. Suitable for all ages but children must not be left unattended.

Show and Tell with Dr Ian Tait: Very small small-boats

Model Boat Demonstrations

John Irvine and Kenny Williamson demonstrate the beautiful intricate model fishing boats they have created. The level of detail must be seen to be believed - watch as these mniature versions actually cast a net in our boat tank!
