Seashore Pals Art Competition Open

Shetland Amenity Trust is delighted to announce that it is working with the seafood industry’s So Much to Sea Campaign on an art competition for bairns, entitled ‘Seashore Pals’.

So Much to Sea is a main sponsor of Shetland Boat Week 2019, and is proud to support the bairns’ art competition launched today. Anyone from pre-school to secondary four is eligible to enter. The challenge is to design a character based on marine life. This could be inspired by a creature from the sea or from finds along the seashore.

Shetland Boat Week held a popular ‘at sea’ themed art competition in 2017, which received over 200 entries. The judges were very impressed by the standard of entries. Pre-school is an added age category this year, and there will be a prize, donated by So Much To Sea, for the winner, runner up and commended entry in each category. Entry forms can be downloaded HERE and will be sent out to all schools and nurseries.

So Much to See representative, Ruth Henderson said “We are delighted to support this initiative. It is a great way to get bairns engaged in the marine environment and interested in the many species that swim around our shores.”

Shetland Amenity Trust Chairwoman, Ruth Mackenzie added “Shetland Boat Week is a fully inclusive event and we are looking forward to seeing the participation from the bairns in the lead up to this year’s main programme of events in August. It will be great to have the winning entries on display at Shetland Museum and Archives.

The event programme is now finalised, but more Shetland model boats are still being sought.
