Bairns Art Competition Launched

Organisers of Shetland Boat Week have, today, announced the launch of a bairns’ art competition which will see the winning entries unveiled for display during the August festival.

All children from Primary one to Secondary four are invited to submit a self-drawn or painted picture on the theme of ‘At Sea’. Entries will be judged by Shetland Museum’s Exhibition Officer, John Hunter, and Morag Nicolson, Young People’s Services Librarian at Shetland Library.

There are three age categories, P1-3, P4-7 and S1-4. One winner from each category will receive a cash prize of £30.00 at the unveiling event on Monday 7th August in Shetland Museum and Archives. All winning entries will also be published in the September issue of Shetland Life magazine.

Mr Hunter commented, “We’re looking forward to seeing a range of different pictures, using different materials. The theme of ‘At Sea’ is quite broad, so we would encourage entrants to use their imagination to impress us.”

Entries must be submitted on a single side of A3 paper along with an entry form, which includes a 50 word (max) description or story to accompany the piece. Forms can be downloaded from www.shetlandboatweek.com/events, or picked up from Shetland Museum and Archives or Shetland Library.

Closing date for entries is Friday 30th June.
