Adrian Duncan Talk - Shetland and the Greenland Whaling

Monday, August 5th 2019 7:00pm - 9:00pm
SMAA Auditorium

Nearly everyone in Shetland knows someone who went to the South Georgia whaling in the Antarctic. But during the 18th and 19th centuries, Shetland had a much longer and more intensive connection with commercial whaling; this time with the Greenland and Davis Straits whaling in the Arctic. This significant period in Shetland’s whaling history is explored in a new book called Shetland and the Greenland Whaling, written by historian Adrian Duncan. The author, who is no stranger to Shetland, has come up from Edinburgh to tell us more about the subject.
