Shetland Boat Week

The second Shetland Boat Week took place between Monday 7th and Sunday 13th August, 2017

Many generations of Shetlanders have made their living on or around the sea and the links with maritime and related marine industries are as important today as they always have been. Shetland Boat Week is an opportunity to showcase this heritage and see how modern ships compare with those of a previous generation.

This is a family friendly event, inspired by Shetland’s rich maritime heritage, while also being inclusive of the more contemporary methods and materials. Shetland Boat Week aims to encourage and promote a passion for traditional Shetland boats, and a growing participation in keeping the sailing, boat building and other historic skills alive.

A whole range of activities are available during the festival which include demonstrations of traditional skills, talks, boat trips and tours of vessels and venues not normally open to the public. See the Shetland Boat Week Event Listings page for details of past events.

Community groups and maritime related groups or businesses are encouraged to take part in Shetland Boat Week by providing tours of their premises, delivering talks, slideshows or other events to share knowledge and experiences.
