Up Helly Aa 2026 at the museum

What a day - Up Helly Aa always brings an incredible atmosphere, and this year was no exception.

The museum was buzzing with visitors of all ages enjoying live music, tours, crafts, Viking artefacts, learning sessions, exhibitions and UHA-themed records from the archives.

The arrival of this year’s Guizer Jarl, Lynden Nicolson, and his squad was a highlight. They were in fine voice performing their official songs, and visitors had the chance to chat, snap photos and admire every detail of the outfits up close.

Our archives team displayed a selection of programmes, committee records, and ephemera tracing the evolution of the fire festival for visitors to get a closer look.

The Junior Jarl Squad's Peerie Galley was on display outside the museum at Hay's Dock.

We can't wait to do it all again next year!
