Museum and Archives to remain closed

Shetland Museum and Archives will remain closed to the public after the festive period due to the latest advice from NHS Shetland on Covid-19.  The Museum and Archives was due to reopen on the 2nd of January.

Museums and Galleries and Visitor Attractions are permitted to remain open under the Tier 3 restrictions that came into force on Boxing Day, provided they have protective measures in place. The Shetland Amenity Trust who operate the Museum and Archives have taken the decision to delay reopening due to the rise in Covid-19 cases in the Isles and the announcement from NHS Shetland encouraging people to stay at home.

Sandy Middleton, Head of Engagement at the Shetland Amenity Trust said, “The Museum is currently closed for the festive period and we had planned to reopen on Saturday 2nd January. We have worked hard to put protective measures in place to ensure people can visit safely with one ways systems, limited numbers in specific areas and of course additional hygiene, cleaning and track and trace measures in place. In light of the most recent advice from NHS Shetland to ‘Stay at home’, it is clear that it would not be responsible for us to reopen at this time. We will continue to monitor Government and NHS Shetland advice and look forward to welcoming people back to the Museum and Archives when we can.”
