'Mootie’s Hoos' exhibition opening in photos
Helen Acklam’s exhibition 'Mootie’s Hoos' opened this weekend in the Gadderie. The gallery has been transformed into a calming, reflective space filled with evocative images of Shetland crofthouses.

Using found and recycled materials, from fragments of wallpaper to plaster and textiles, Helen creates textured, mixed-media works that explore the resilience, resourcefulness and quiet strength of island life.

Mootie’s Hoos is inspired by conversations with an elderly woman in North Roe, capturing the heritage of crofting communities and the women who sustained them. These uplifting and thought-provoking works invite you to reflect on the powerful relationship between people, memory and place.

All works are for sale through the Own Art Scheme (10 interest-free installments) get in touch to find out more, with stationery and calendars available in the museum shop.
The exhibition is on display until 12 October – it’s a must see!
