Text from First Annual Memorial Lecture Published
The Shetland Museum and Archives has published the text from its first memorial lecture.
Held on the 30th October 2008 in honour of Tom Henderson, the first curator of the Shetland Museum, the lecture was given by Professor Jørn Øyrehagen Sunde of the University of Bergen. Professor Sunde’s lecture, From a Shetland Lairdship to a Norwegian Barony: the Mouat family and the Barony of Rosendal, explains in great detail how the Mouat family, who originated in Shetland, went on to become one of the most wealthy and successful families in Norway.
The lecture explored the history of the Mouat family itself, as well as more general relationships which existed between Shetland and Norway in the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries, making it a significant and insightful contribution to the study of both places.
The publication is available to buy from the Museum and Archives shop and the Shetland Times bookshop, priced £4.50. To order a copy by phone, call the Shetland Museum and Archives on 01595 695057.
