Shetland Amenity Trust Enters Partnership with National Museums Scotland

Shetland Amenity Trust and National Museums Scotland have entered into a strategic partnership agreement to develop joint projects that improve standards of care, display, exhibition, information and access to collections at local level.

This agreement marks the development of a closer relationship between the parties, including working together on loans, publications, replicas, training & skills exchange.

One of the first joint ventures will be the short term loan of the St Ninian’s Isle Treasure from July to September this year, as part of the celebrations to mark the 50th anniversary of its discovery.  This will be the first of a series of loans between the organisations, including the Gunnister Man which is scheduled for 2009.

Dr Gordon Rintoul, Director, National Museums Scotland, said: “We are looking forward to working more closely with the Shetland Amenity Trust. This partnership is an opportunity to widen access to Scotland’s national collections and share expertise in museum skills. We hope it will allow us to look at other areas of our collections that would be of interest to the community of Shetland and help to develop audiences to the Shetland Museum & Archives.”

The formation of this partnership is of great importance to Shetland Amenity Trust and will enable them to enrich the collections in the Shetland Museum and Archives.  Jimmy Moncrieff, General Manager, said: “We see this strategic partnership with the NMS as positive recognition of the quality of museum provision in Shetland and we look forward to many fruitful joint initiatives in the years ahead.”
