Archives Services

Shetland Archives searchroom provides a quiet space to carry out research using the extensive range of archive material held in the repository. The Archives are a public resource open to everyone, without appointment, and provide access to documents, images and sound files.

Whether your inquiry is an interest in the newspaper from the day you were born, or a lengthy research project for a book or academic course, the Archives facilities are available.

While Archives staff are unable to carry out research on behalf of users, they are able to provide copies of documents or prints of microfilm files for a small reproduction fee.

Archives staff, in conjunction with the lifelong learning team deliver school sessions through the year relating to specific topics, such as WWII in November.

The Archives catalogue is available to view online before or after your visit to the searchroom.
